Description

DHIS2 is hiring a senior Software Engineer with expertise in creating scalable and high-performance applications built on a relational database, specifically PostgreSQL. This is a full-time position, with the option to work remotely or from Oslo, Norway. Join us to be part of an open-source digital health project with worldwide impact.

DHIS2 is the largest health software in the world, with many countries increasingly using it at population-scale - monitoring health services delivered to tens or hundreds of millions of people. We are looking for an expert to help us optimize what we have today and think outside the box so that we can achieve 10-100x improvements in the future. You will play a critical role in not only solving real pain points for DHIS2 users and implementers today but also in defining the architectural roadmap for the future of DHIS2.

Qualifications

  1. Passionate about working on a meaningful, impactful, and challenging global project
  2. Extensive experience with PostgreSQL databases
  3. Experience with Java development (Java 8+) and Maven.
  4. Experience with other databases and an understanding of their performance characteristics and tradeoffs
  5. Experience with design and development of Web APIs a plus
  6. Experience with Java enterprise frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate is a big plus
  7. Fluent in verbal and written English
  8. Strong skills in clear technical writing and communication
  9. Experience building technology for use in low-resource settings and on-premise deployments is a plus

We are a remote-first global team but we recognize the importance of meeting and collaborating with colleagues in person. You will have the opportunity to travel 1-3 times per year to meet with other members or your team.

This is a full-time position (80% possible) on an annual renewable contract. We are focused on building long-term contractor relationships. We support flexible work arrangements with generous holiday allowances, and we offer the option to renew for longer contract periods over time.
